Post-baccalaureate students (those who already earned bachelor’s or graduate degrees) may seek Texas teaching credentials through the Teacher Development Center (TDC) Educator Preparation Program.

Official Admission Requirements

  • Apply to UT Dallas as a non-degree seeking, teacher certification, graduate student in the School of Interdisciplinary Studies.
  • Meet with an advisor in the TDC to develop your certification plan.
  • Upon acceptance of admission to  UT Dallas, teacher certification students must complete ALL required paperwork in the TDC in order to register for classes.
  • Post-Baccalaureate students must have an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited university. If you hold a degree from an accredited college or university and have never enrolled in an Educator Preparation Program (EPP), you might qualify to register for a Pre-Admission Content Test (PACT). Detailed PACT information is available at the NES website: http://www.tx.nesinc.com  Taking PACT does not ensure admittance into an Educator Preparation Program. Programs may have additional admission requirements. Registration for the new PACT exams will open January 21, 2020, for testing appointments available beginning January 27, 2020.
  • GPA of 2.75 or higher or a GPA of 2.75 or higher in their bachelor’s degree coursework.
  • Complete a minimum of 15 hours of Content coursework for those students who are pursuing Math and Science(s) Certifications (4-8, 6-12 and 7-12).  Completed a minimum of 12 hours of Content coursework for those students who are pursuing teaching fields in Arts and Humanities.
  • GRE – A minimum Verbal score of 450 and a minimum Quantitative score of 450 for a combined Verbal/Quantitative minimum score of 900 and a writing score of 3 or higher. Revised 2012 GRE Scoring: Minimum Verbal score of 135 and a minimum Quantitative score of 135 for a combined Verbal/Quantitative minimum score of 270 and a writing score of 3 or higher.
    • TSI – Exempt or Complete (revision as of 7/8/2016)
    • Or, as otherwise determined by the program.
  • Social Security Number – A Social Security number is required for Teacher Certification to complete the fingerprinting process
  • Students are required to adhere to the Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators and Fitness to Teach Policy.
  • Students are notified by email when they have been officially admitted to the Teacher Certification Preparation Program. Students must reply to the email within 7 days to accept their admittance to the program.
  • TEAL* (TEA login), ECOS (Educator Certification Online System) and NES (Texas Educator Certification Examination Program) accounts must be established.

*TEAL (TEA login): You will be prompted to enter your social security number to verify your account. If you do not have a social security number, follow the instructions during the setup process to request a temporary file number.

International Students

  • TOEFL – Students from non-English speaking countries whose primary language is NOT English are required to take all four sections of the TOEFL (as the only approved test). Texas Education Agency requires applicants to score a 24 for Speaking, 22 for Listening, 22 for Reading and 21 for Writing. To register for the TOEFL, please login to the ETS website.

  • Students must provide official transcripts and all official transcripts must have a detailed evaluation.
